Information
Sponsors of the Grand East Anglia Run (GEAR) are BESPAK.
The GEAR is an exact 10 kilometres (6.2 miles). It is a one-lap course around the centre of King's Lynn. The course is on paths and roads, and is flat and fast. Drink stations will be provided at the 5K point, the 7.5K point and at the end of the race.
UK Athletics rules state that to take part in a 10k race a runner must be 15 years of age. Therefore, anyone wishing to take part in the GEAR must be 15 years of age on or before 2nd May 2010.
You will receive confirmation of your entry once you have completed an entry form and paid your entry fee. Your race pack, including your number with chip timing device will be sent to you within 14 days of race day or immediately on receipt of your entry if you enter less than 14 days before the race. Once your entry is validated your name will appear on the Race Entry List.
Once an entry has been received and confirmed, no refund will be possible.
For reasons of safety, there will be an entry limit of 2500 runners - no further entries will be accepted once this limit has been reached.
The event is run under the auspices of the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk, which has associate membership of England Athletics. The race has an official licence and will be staged in accordance with UKA Rules for competition.
One element of UKA Rules is that those taking part in any licenced race, who are not members of a U.K.A affiliated club, will be required to pay an additional £2 on the entry fee. The extra money is required to cover the cost of insuring an individual, which for affiliated runners is done through their parent club.
The GEAR will use a chip automated timing service. This chip will be attached to your race number and you will not be required to hand it in at the finish. Your 'Gun to Tape' and 'Start to Tape' times will both be recorded and shown on the results. Age graded percentage performance will be calculated and recorded.
If any runner loses their race number, a replacement will be available on race day from the Control Centre. A charge of £5.00 will be levied to cover the cost of an extra number.
Families and friends are very welcome to attend the GEAR; the course is excellent for spectators.
Visitors can find accommodation and other local information on the Borough Councils Visit West Norfolk website.
A First Aid Centre, manned by St. John Ambulance and Paramedics with a Doctor in attendance, will be located in the area of the Start/Finish additional medical assistance will be available elsewhere on the course.
Certain roads in King's Lynn will be closed to the public, for a limited period, on race day. Details will be published nearer the time throughout the press and media.
There is plenty of parking for runners and spectators in close proximity to the Start. Car parks are sign posted from all major routes. (See Course Plan)
For those intending to come by train or bus, King's Lynn Bus and Railway Stations are within easy walking distance of the Start.
Refreshments will be available for purchase on race day.
Although the event is not specifically supporting one charity, competitors are encouraged to use the race as a way of raising money for a charity of their choice. Click here for more information.
CCTV
The Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk Closed Circuit Television or CCTV comprises of a strategically placed camera network throughout the area and relaying pictures back to the central control. These images are not only recorded continuously 24 hours a day, but are monitored and under the control of our own professional fully licensed operators.
CCTV, apart from dealing with all aspects of crime and disorder also plays an important and effective role with welfare and public safety. It is with this in mind that we are glad to offer our assistance with monitoring areas of the course for the Grand East Anglia Run.
